Flower Festival 2010
For many decades there has been a Flower Festival in St Mary's Church at the top of Pilton Street over Festival weekend. The magnificent displays of flowers usually follow an annual theme and fill the whole church with colours and scents. In 2010 the theme was 'Celebration' and a number of the displays are shown here.
The first celebrates the 'Bells' of the Church, three of which will be 300 years old in 2012.
These celebrate the '40th Birthday' of Pilton's Women's Institute in 2010 and 'Mothering Sunday' which falls three weeks before Easter in the middle of Lent.
Below is a flower display by the 7th Barnstaple (Pilton Bluecoat) Brownies celebrating a '100 Years of Guiding'.
These two displays celebrate 'Marriage' and 'Harvest Festival'
....and this one 'Epiphany'.
Finally, in a display entitled 'Remembrance', we remember those who gave their lives in the Great War 1914-1918 in this display in front of the memorial plaque under the west window of the Church.
Thanks to Sue Buttonshaw and Kate Hastings and the many other volunteer flower arrangers for their wonderful displays which were enjoyed by a large number of visitors over the Festival weekend.
